After reading Snooping Bosses I am left a bit chocked over what has happened to peoples integrity and privacy. It is no longer possible to live a private life, everybody has to know each others business all the time.
Although I think it is necessary and all around okay that bosses check up on their employees, there has too be a certain line. Reading an employs work related email is fine but crossing the line and reading private emails is really intrusive.
I understand that a boss wants to keep track of his employees but everyone has the right to their own privacy and you should be allowed to do whatever you want when you are off work. If you are good at what you do you shouldn't get fired just because you do something in your free time that the boss doesn't approve off.
The internet could be a dangerous place if you’re not careful. You could easily be manipulated and tricked in to doing things that you would not normally do. A potential boss might not hire you if he can dig up dirt on your past on the internet. So the lesson to be learned here: Watch your back at work, don't take work home and don't bring your personal life in to your work environment.
I share your opinions on the article, it gets harder and harder to have a private life. Bosses should of course know what employees do at work, but at the same time they have to know where the line between checking up on employees and violating privacy goes.
SvaraRaderaFinally, I would just like to say that I find your text well written and easy to follow.
I agree with you that a line needs to be drawn between work time and private time. That line is pretty hard to draw though. One example of that dilemma was when a girl posted on her facebook wall that she hated her boss, called him names and so on. What she didn't think of was that he was a friend of hers there. His comment to her post was: "You don't need to come in to work tomorrow, you're fired". I strongly believe that he has the right to act upon that, but I'm sure there are tons of other examples that enlightens different perspectives.
SvaraRaderaThank you for a good read.
I totally agree with your thoughts. There should be line between work and privacy. In my opinion, the main point for that issues is respect. Both workers and bosses should respect each other. I think this can solve that problem.
SvaraRaderaI agree with you that it is no longer possible to live a private life. It is because of a modern technology we are living in. It has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is that it is easy to find information about someone, which is good for the company to make a better decision. One of the disadvantages, the person does not want to share everything about his privet life. This might be scurrilous.
SvaraRaderaIf you are at work, you must spent all the time by working and do not sent private emails during your work time and in my opinion: The boss have the right to check up everything you do even the private emails.
